How Has COVID-19 Impacted You?
A Toronto family, known as the Barone-Nelson family, has spent the last seven months together. They have cooked together, hiked, and even raised ducklings together. The family says that the pandemic had strengthened their relationship (Global News). Barone said that “Being locked up or cooped up with each other for a long time, I think it made us realize what our strengths are and what our weaknesses are in each other. And we just learned to support one another in that way.”
This shows that the pandemic has brought families together, which is pretty accurate for me in my life because ever since the pandemic I have also been cooped up in my house with both of my siblings. I am always the one that is watching my siblings and feeding them during and in between my classes because both my parents work during the day and they couldn’t really find anyone that can watch them. So I took the initiative to watch over them since I am just at home.
Almost everyday during the week I get up really early to move to my parents room to sleep beside my little sister because she usually cries every morning looking for our mom. When she wakes up we go downstairs and eat breakfast. As she eats I get ready for my morning class which is at 8:30. After my class which ends at 11 I get some food ready for both of my siblings for lunch because my next class starts at 12:20. If my little sister starts to act up I try to put her to sleep before or during my class so I have nothing to worry about while I am in class. On the other hand I don’t really have to look after my other sibling because he is old enough to take care of himself and besides he always goes to me if he needs help with anything. Near the end of my class my dad would come home and after that I don’t really have to worry about watching my siblings since my dad is home from work. So I usually do my own stuff like grab a snack, finish up some of my homework, or even workout.
Even though watching over my little siblings is a little stressful because I would have to complete a task or present or do a test and my little sister would be crying non stop. I later learned how to cope with this during the past few months being locked up with them. This comes to the end of my everyday life during the week and how the pandemic has impacted me.
I agree, while true the pandemic did also cause some negatives; there were also a lot of positives such as the examples you gave. My experience with COVID was also leaning towards the positives, I got to find out what I liked to do such as cooking, and got to find out what I wasn't good at such as having good communication skills; the pandemic also allowed me to have more free time, it gave me more time to spend with my parents, and allowed for more time on my hobbies. So all in all, the pandemic has allowed for families to become closer and allowed time for individuals to find out more about themselves.
ReplyDeleteThe occurrence of a pandemic is an unexpected, yet terrifying experience for majority of the world populous. I do agree on the fact that people have grown stronger relationships with their relatives and family members, allowing them to have company and being able to sustain good health whilst being stuck inside their households. I have also begun to undergo exercises and practices that have helped me stay entertained and on track with myself and grow an improvement of self-awareness with myself and the change of the environment surrounding me.

ReplyDeleteTalking about the positives in this real negative situation is a great change in pace. Pointing out that the pandemic has really brought many families closer together is truly a big positive in this case, with everyone spending more time together and at home since everything is locked down and closed. Now we have more time to spend with our family our relationships can grow, I myself feel like I’ve gotten closer to my sister thanks to the pandemic, which I don’t think would’ve happened if things were just normal. Great post Kristjan.
